Films and Fashion: Part I
Rear Window: What I wouldn’t give to find a white halter exactly like this one. I am thinking of just getting it copied by a seamstress.
Rear Window: Grace Kelly’s ensemble is perfection—from the simple pearl choker to that incredible dress. Edith Head outdid herself.

Bonnie and Clyde: Another case of sartorial perfection. I never tire of admiring how Faye Dunaway looks in those classic berets and scarves.

Belle de Jour: As Séverine, the very bored and imaginative physician’s wife, Catherine Deneuve looks nothing short of stunning in an array of Yves Saint Laurent pieces.

Mandalay: My dear friend F. brought this gown, worn by Kay Francis, to my attention. For the Paramount starlets of yore, this is what you call a true showstopper.

I Found Stella Parish: Kay Francis in a publicity still. What Grecian flair!

Letty Lynton: Holy glamour, no? Joan Crawford in one sexy number by Gilbert Adrian. Might get the seamstress cracking on this one, too.

Anna Karenina (1948): I love the details of this gown. Vivien Leigh looks positively patrician.
Gone With the Wind: Vivien Leigh makes an entrance in gorgeously festive garnet designed by Walter Plunkett.

I love Faye’s makeup in that photo so much: I do my own adaption of it which you can see in my blogger profile pic. Except I went for bolder brighter lips, of course. I think Faye is the only one who can carry off a beret with that much style. I love that Kay Francis photo you found - it’s so posed and perfect it could easily be a painting.

Dear K, your profile pic is legendary. I have admired it for some time now. The expression on your face is priceless!
About the Faye pic, I totally agree–she looks amazing there. I thought about using a couple of other less circulated photos, but they are black and whites and I just love how her make-up looks, as well as the color of the sweater and so forth. A perfect outfit, in my book. Faye has seriously never looked better. Just look at her cheekbones in that shot.
There are so many wonderful photos of Kay, including many with our beloved William Powell.

Dear M, so lovely to see you! As you know, I love every single fashion frame of Rear Window. Now if only I could find a photo of Grace whipping out that negligee.

Dear Mireille, so lovely to see you here, too! Welcome!
Deneuve is just too gorgeous–bored, imaginative, whatever.

Dear S, what a pleasure to see you post here as well. Welcome!
I remember that makeover by Aucoin. In fact, I kept running into that image when I was looking for photos. As for the halter, thanks, sweetie. I think we all need to have that halter made; goodness knows, it would look perfect on all of us.

Yowza! not one, but two great pics of wavishing Kay Fwancis! I have a brief bio of her in one of my books. She seems to have been a good person, a kind and loyal friend, but she made a lot of bad career decisions. In her final years she wound up a terrible drunk and her movies are largely forgotten. I do love “Trouble in Paradise,” though, and since you like William Powell, if you haven’t caught “One-Way Passage” you should. It is a four-hankie romantic melodrama as good in its way as “Back Street.” And The House on 52nd St. is supposed to be good, though I never saw it.
